Lionsgate: The action-packed sequel to 2008’s War Zone has received some love from 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and digital still books. The set will be released on October 18 and include additional features, including the cast’s training routines, the weapons used in the film, and the voices of some of the crew members, including the director. Lexi Alexander. You can check out the box artwork below:
The Punisher: Warzone finds Frank Castle, aka The Punisher (Ray Stevenson), fighting once again against the crime syndicate responsible for the deaths of his wife and children. With the help of his trusted accomplice, Microchip (Wayne Knight), he nearly kills mob boss Billy Rossotti (Dominic West) but fatally kills him instead. Thirst for revenge, Billy (who calls himself Jigsaw) recruits criminals from every corner of the city to capture Frank.
The Punisher was released in 2004 and starred Thomas Jane as Frank Castle (also known as The Punisher). Plot Punishment: Very similar to Warzone. In the film, an undercover FBI agent wakes up on the alert and prepares to vent his anger on a corrupt businessman who kills his entire family at a reunion. The Punisher character has appeared in comics, shows, and movies, all from the same genre as the original story. Frank Castle is usually the former agent who steals and kills those responsible for his family’s arrest.
At one point, Gene was attached to reprise the role in Punisher: War Zone but eventually dropped out due to creative differences. “I have to leave P2 with regret and sadness,” he said Ain’t It Cool News in a 2007 interview. He continued, “What I wouldn’t do is spend months of my life on a movie I don’t believe in.”
Punisher: The battlefield is often unfairly overlooked, some would say. For example, the 2004 film The Punisher never received a good response, which naturally killed any interest in a sequel. Of course, recasting Frank Castle’s role certainly doesn’t help matters. In addition, the story is entirely different from the previous one. However, some, including Drew Deutsch of Giant Freakin’ Robot, think the sequel is better. He said, “Not only is it cool, but it’s also one of the best Marvel models ever. Want a bold claim? This is the best adaptation of Punisher ever.”
Released in theaters on December 4, 2008, Punishment: War Zone sits on Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of 29% from critics and 42% from audiences. The film has grossed over eight million dollars domestically and nearly two million dollars internationally. With a budget of $35 million, it was considered a box office failure. Luckily, with the upcoming Steelbook set, the Forgotten sequel may get a new lease on life. Collider reports on the following special features: Punisher Training, Making Punishment: Warzone, film screenings, interview puzzles, Weapons of Punishment, audio commentary with director Lexi Alexander and director of photography Steve Gaynor, and a theatrical release.
