Simu Liu is playing the role of an AI villain in Jennifer Lopez’s film

Simu Liu may be one of a new generation of heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his next role sees him stepping into the realm of villains. Simu Liu will play an artificial intelligence star opposite Jennifer Lopez in Netflix’s Atlas. Deadline reports that Samu Liu Sterling K. Brown and Abraham will share the screen with Bobola.

Atlas is set in a dark AI-powered future, with Jennifer Lopez as a woman fighting to save humanity from an evil AI which seeks to achieve a world (not Skynet) free from war. Destroy humanity. Lopez’s character teams up with his old foe, another artificial intelligence (no, not the T-800) to save humanity. Yes, the new Netflix film is set to be a huge sci-fi/action prop column and will be familiar to fans of the Terminator franchise. Recently, however, Netflix has been good at reimagining popular tropes of the genre, such as the heist film Red Notes and the spy film The Gray Men. According to Deadline sources, Simi Liu is the film’s main antagonist, so it’s safe to assume it’s the evil AI that will destroy the human race.

Outside of the anticipated Shang-Chi sequel — though director Destin Daniels Creighton’s Avengers: The Kong Family — Sumo Liu has a massive slate of projects shortly. In addition to her newly announced involvement in Netflix Atlas, Liu is set to play director Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and collaborate with Mark Wahlberg in King Arthur. Apart from these projects ranging from adventure to comedy, Samu Liu is enjoying a romance after releasing his upcoming film One True Love.

Lead by Atlas, Simu Liu, and co-star, Jennifer Lopez, needs no introduction. The actress is having a busy year with the release of the Netflix documentary Mary May, halftime charting her career so far, and being married to Ben Affleck for eight months. Lopez is currently in the midst of a multi-year first-look deal with Netflix. Another of Leo’s classmates, Sterling K. Brown, is truly a household name on the small screen, thanks to his portrayal of Randall Pearson on the hit family drama series This Is Us. The Emmy-winning show recently marked Atlas Brown’s commitment to adding a feature-length film project to his resume to complement previous roles like Hotel Artemis and Predator. Ibrahim Bobola’s career isn’t as extensive as his classmates, but the actor recently made a name for himself thanks to Sony Morbius’ Spider-Man Spider-Man. Atlas director Brad Peyton’s previous work has included the likes of San Andreas and Rampage, two films that largely resemble action sequences that emphasize destruction. Fans can expect a lot from Atlas, and it will be interesting to see how Simu Liu fits into the role of the main, the villain, and the antagonist.
