Seth Rogen Is Creating a Film Based on a Subreddit

Those who follow the world of the stock market and Reddit will still have a little push of GameStop’s update on their minds. Now David (Larger Than Life Financial Story) Vs. Goliath (a giant hedge fund) is adapted to the screen in a movie called Dumb Money. Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Pat Davidson and Sebastian Stan are on the ride. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie and based on the book “The Anti-Social Network” by Ben Mezrich.

Mezrich also wrote Accidental Billions, a book edited by Aaron Sorkin for David Fincher’s The Social Network. In addition, Mezrich wrote “Out of Home” about the MIT scandal, edited on the 21st. Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum edited the script. With such an adaptable track record and a team led by Seth Rogen and company, Dumb Money could be poised to be something special.

For those unfamiliar with the GameStop story, in 2021, a large group of retail investors on the subsite r/wallstreetbets noticed that nearly 140% of GameStop’s public float (shares in a publicly traded investor-owned company) had been sold short. . Subreddit and other investors tried to buy shares to cover the position, causing heavy losses to hedge funds and other short sellers, while GameStop’s share price also rose. At one point, the stock hit an all-time high of $500 per share and saw a significant increase in share price from $17.25 near the beginning of the month. It’s unclear who Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Pete Davidson and Sebastian Stan will play in this true story, but it should be a lot of fun, no matter what.

Blackbear Pictures has picked up foreign distribution rights for the Seth Rogen project with Blackbear International. US rights are held by the independent film group UTA. Blackbear and Gillespie’s Aaron Ryder and Teddy Schwarzman are producing with executive producers including Michael Himmler, Friedberg, Andrew Sweet, Angelo, Sugar Bloom, Mezrich, Johnny Holland, Kevin Ulrich, Taylor Winklevoss and Cameron Winklevoss.

The last two names on this list are particularly interesting because you can see Taylor and Cameron Winklevoss as twins who settled on Facebook with Mark Zuckerberg for $65 million. After being accused of stealing his idea. Since then, the two have become major investors in Bitcoin and opened their cryptocurrency exchange called Gemini. With such an eclectic production team, a weird financial story, and teammates like Seth Rogen, Dumb Money is shaping up to be something interesting.

Dumb Money will reunite Seth Rogen with Sebastian Stan, who starred opposite Rogen in Pam and Tommy. Rosen was also an executive producer on Pam and Tommy with Craig Gillespie, who also directed several series episodes. Pam and Tommy received ten Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for Stan and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for Roseanne. The filming of Dumb Money will begin soon. Meanwhile, you can see Roseanne in her next acting project, Legend Man, opposite Roseanne’s Dumb Money Paul Dano.
