Hulu continues to tease the arrival of the next Hellraiser film and reveals a new image of the priest of Hell aka Pinhead. According to reports, Jimmy Clayton will play Pinhead, following in the footsteps of original actor Doug Bradley. As a trans actress, Clayton is putting more female roles in her portrayal of the iconic character. An internet split with the actor led to Bradley giving memorable performances as Pinhead in several films. Some have praised the move, saying it matches Parker’s original short story, which portrayed a hell’s priest as androgynous.
The last glimpse of the Clayton Pinhead pictured above shows the Cenobite from one side allowing us to see it from another angle. It comes after a preview posted by Hulu, pictured below, gives fans a first-hand look at Pinhead’s face. Of course, giving Clayton the pin by the head makes it clear who he is, the new incarnation of the Priest of Hell. The difference in Clayton’s appearance compared to Bradley adds a new twist to Pinhead.
As for Bradley, you can count him in Clayton’s corner. This horror story recently appeared at Silver Scream Con and spoke to the cast. Bradley said he “really, really loves” Clayton’s performance in the Netflix series Sense8, which he hopes will do well playing the character of Pinhead. She “that wore a skirt while playing the character,” adding that Hellraiser “always broke the rules.”
“We say ‘female Pinhead’ like we know what that means, but there are a million shades of femininity,” Bradley said. “Where exactly are they going to go with that? Everything about Hellraiser has always been transgressive. Everything, always, from start to finish. It’s not a new idea in that sense, but I’m intrigued. I’m in the same position as all the rest of you, I guess, to see where that goes.”
Stressing how the story will be more important than the casting, Bradley added, “The thing that will make the movie work or not is none of that. It’s the story. If the story is strong, the movie will work. That’s why Hellraiser has succeeded; not because the Cenobites are gloriously f***ed up and so is Julia, which they all are. All of those elements are magnificent in the film, and Chris Young’s score is one of the best ever written. All of that is true, but the story is what makes Hellraiser work, so we’ll see what happens.”
