James Cameron Says the Upcoming Avatar Re-Release is ‘The Way It Was Meant to be Seen’

Avatar returns to theatres in stunning 4K HDR.

Avatar returns to theatres this week, cementing its position as the highest-grossing film of all time. Originally released in 2009, the film grossed $2.84 billion at the box office, with more to come when the film returns to the big screen. Despite its mixed reception from critics and audiences, Avatar is undoubtedly one of the most visually pleasing films of all time. Planet Pandora is filled with a detailed world with vibrant colours and stunning scenery that will keep fans coming back for more.

Now, the film is getting a major upgrade as it returns in stunning 4K resolution with a high dynamic range. James Cameron released a video promoting the Avatar re-release, saying it was “the way it looks”.

“Hi everyone, I’m Jim Cameron. Ever since I was a kid going to the movies, there was nothing like the cinema experience. When we made Avatar, we set out to push the limits of that experience. And now the movie has been remastered in stunning 4K, high-dynamic range, and 9.1 sound, and it’s returning to theaters on September 23rd for a limited time. See Avatar the way it was meant to be seen, on the big screen.”

The full video can be found below, including a few clips from the remastered version of Avatar.

Avatar returns to theatres later this month, on September 23.

Avatar: The Way of Water is Set to Arrive in December

Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel that took 13 years to complete, will be released later this year. The film features an all-star cast, including several actors reprising their roles from the first film. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, and Matt Gerald will return for their parts, while Sigourney Weaver returns but plays a new role in the film.

Michelle Yeoh, Kate Winslet, Ona Chaplin, Germaine Clement, Edie Falco, Cliff Curtis, Chloe Coleman, and Billy Bass join the ongoing franchise for the first time in Avatar: The Way of Water. Of course, Cameron is back to direct the sequel, though his involvement was rumoured during the planned five-film tour.

The film’s official synopsis is: “Jake Sully lives with his new family on the planet Pandora. When a familiar threat returns to what started before, Jack must join Neytiri and the Na’vi to protect his planet. Join forces. We have to work together with the army.” Avatar: The Way of Water is slated for release later this year on December 16.
