George RR Martin wanted at least 10 seasons of Game of Thrones

Before the premiere of House of Dragons, original writer George RR Martin expressed his disappointment that the first Game of Thrones series was cut short. After eight seasons, Game of Thrones ended in controversy, with many fans criticizing the final episode. A common complaint is that the final season is “rushed,” with all the significant plots ending abruptly.

Martin seemed to agree with that sentiment, saying that the Game of Thrones series needed more time to finish.

Speaking about the show in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Martin reflected on the eight seasons of Game of Thrones. He complained about how he was trying to get to season 13, saying he wanted the entire 10 seasons, but none of them believed it.

“I said there should be 10 seasons, maybe 12, 16. There’s a lot of energy in ‘House of the Dragon’ right now.”

Will House of the Dragon Go for 10 seasons?

According to Martin, this is mainly connected with a new reference series – House of the Dragon. The first season will have 10 episodes, and it is not yet known how long the show will last, as it depends on the audience and critical reception. Season 2 hasn’t been greenlit at this point, but we can assume more seasons are on the way when Season 1 is hit. Will it last for 10 seasons? It’s not clear, but the drivers are passing through the comments.

“We have a great idea to go with it, but we can’t tell you,” showrunner Miguel Sapochnik told ComicBook.com. “I think the most important thing is to think of it as the fourth episode, the fourth episode of Star Wars. So we’re in the middle of rich and storied history. And that’s a good place to start.”

“I think our plan is great. Plans like this should always be expansive,” showrunner Ryan Condell told Collider about what’s to come when Season 2 arrives. I think the place, the places you want to go, and the sense of ending is essential, especially with this story. We have 170 years of history, so you should know. Where does this story end?”
