Christian Bale is a Gothic Detective in First Look at Netflix’s The Pale Blue Eye

Now we have our first look at Academy Award winner Christian Bale in Netflix’s upcoming gothic crime thriller The Pale Blue Eye. Classic gothic we’ve seen in a while. Check out the new photos of the pale blue eyes below.

Adapted from Lewis Baird’s 2006 novel of the same name, The Pale Blue Eye will follow the same plot as the original and transport viewers to the year 1830. The body of a young student found hanging at West Point Academy is from a rope. In apparent suicide.

But the next morning something dreadful happened. Someone dug a hole where the body was dumped and removed the heart. The answer is “no,” and desperate to avoid any negative publicity, the Academy enlists the services of a former NYPD detective and now local, Augustus ‘Gus’ Lander, played by Christian Bale.

Landor, now an anxious widower, came out of retirement and agreed to take the case. The real transformation comes when Lander meets a young academic student, who turns out to be the legendary realist writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe, played by Harry Potter and The Queen’s Gambit star Harry Melling.

The Pale Blue Eye also stars Gillian Anderson (The Crown), Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist), Toby Jones (First Cow), Harry Lawtey (Industry), Simon McBurney (Carnival Row), Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner), Hadley Robinson (Moxie), Joey Brooks (Molly’s Game), Brennan Cook (Encounter), Gideon Glick (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus), Matt Helm (Tragedy of Macbeth), Steven Maier (The Plot Against America), Charlie Tahan (Ozark) and Robert Duvall (The Judge).
